Nate Solder a solid pick for Patriots

Offensive tackle out of Colorado will fit well, but was trade a smart move?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- It's hard to argue when the New England Patriots invest their top draft choice to protect quarterback Tom Brady's blindside, which is what they did in tapping mammoth Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder with the 17th selection of the 2011 NFL draft on Thursday night.

It's a no-frills pick, but one of substance, similar to what last year's Super Bowl participants -- the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers -- did in the first round a year ago.
