Source: Red Sox talked Carlos Beltran

With the Boston Red Sox out from under the five-year, $70 million contract of J.D. Drew, the team is in the market for a right fielder. Free agent slugger Carlos Beltran could fill that hole.

A baseball source told ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes that Beltran's name has been discussed by members of the Red Sox front office. However, the Red Sox also are looking at cheaper right-handed hitting platoon options to play with either Josh Reddick or Ryan Kalish, the source said.
