Carl Crawford to rest 5-7 days

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Monday that Opening Day "probably is not realistic" for Carl Crawford after the left fielder was examined and told that he should curtail swinging and throwing for 5-7 days.

"A little inflammation was detected," Valentine said of Crawford's surgically repaired left wrist. On Monday, Crawford was examined by Dr. Donald Sheridan, the surgeon who performed the procedure, after reporting inflammation late last week.
