Cespedes left, a source said, after manager John Farrell informed him that his mother, Estela Milanes Salazar, had been taken by ambulance from Fenway Park to Massachusetts General Hospital because of issues related to high blood pressure, which she has acknowledged having in the past.
Salazar was reported to be feeling "fine" on Friday afternoon, the source said. Salazar has been staying with Cespedes since his trade from the Oakland Athletics on July 31.
