BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is unhurt after a minor car accident on his way to Fenway Park.

Ortiz was involved in the multi-car accident on Boylston Street Friday afternoon on his way to prepare for a game with the Cleveland Indians.

Ortiz told WBZ-TV in Boston: "I lost a little control coming out of the gas station and I hit a car, but I'm fine. Everybody is fine."

He said "we're going to try to be fine" for Friday night's game.

Boston police said they didn't immediately have details but were investigating an accident at the location.

Ortiz is hitting .352 with 7 home runs and 23 RBIs this season for the last-place Red Sox.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
