BC's Montel Harris has knee surgery

Montel Harris carried Boston College past Virginia on Saturday, but he suffered a knee injury that required surgery on Monday.

The junior running back underwent arthroscopic surgery for a torn left lateral meniscus in his knee at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. The school announced that he will miss Saturday's contest against Syracuse, but there was no word on how long he could be out.

Harris carried 24 times for 114 yards, including a go-ahead 4-yard touchdown late in the third quarter, to lift surging Boston College (6-5) past Virginia 17-13 and make them bowl eligible.

It was the eighth 100-plus yard game of the season for Harris, who moved into second place ahead of Mike Cloud on the school's all-time list with 3,600 yards before leaving with the injury. Derrick Knight ('03) is the school leader with 3,725 yards.

Harris has run for 1,243 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
