Tight ends coach Dave Brock has been named acting offensive coordinator and will coach the quarterbacks. Graduate assistant Ben Johnson will be elevated to tight ends coach on an interim basis.
"Our football program operates as a family unit, and we are totally supportive of Kevin," coach Frank Spaziani said in a prepared statement. "I would like to ask our fans and followers to support Kevin and respect his privacy. I have the utmost confidence in Dave Brock, and we will begin the transition immediately."
It's a significant setback to a program that is off to its first 0-2 start since 1994 after losses to Northwestern and Central Florida. The hire of Rogers this offseason was expected to give a much-needed boost to the Eagles maligned offense. Rogers had coached the quarterbacks of the Minnesota Vikings for five seasons prior to being hired at Boston College, and is also very familiar with the ACC from his time as an assistant at Virginia Tech (2002-05).
The Eagles have struggled offensively in their first two games, though, averaging just 10 points. Boston College hosts Duke on Saturday.
BC also confirmed Monday that sophomore cornerback C.J. Jones will miss the rest of the season with a right knee injury that will require surgery. The date of the surgery has not been determined.
Jones, who made his first career start in the opener against Northwestern, was injured on the opening kickoff against UCF. His loss continues a theme for the Eagles, who also lost both presumed starting safeties in training camp -- Okechukwu Okoroha was dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons and Dominick LeGrande decided to transfer.
Junior Jim Noel moved over from safety to replace Jones against UCF, with redshirt freshman Dominique Williams taking Noel's place.
