The ACC has granted Boston College medical hardship waivers for five football players, including Montel Harris, the school's all-time leading rusher, and a men's cross-country runner, the school announced Friday.

Harris, C.J. Jones, Ifeanyi Momah, Kaleb Ramsey and Connor Wujciak were granted waivers after missing most of the 2011 season due to injury. Cross-country runner Jose Estevez was also granted a waiver. Players are eligible for medical hardship waivers if they appear in fewer than 30 percent of their team's games, with none coming after the midpoint of the season.

Harris, Jones, Ramsey and Wujciak will have one year of eligibility remaining. Momah, who missed the 2009 season due to injury, will require an additional waiver from the NCAA to receive a sixth year of eligibility.

"This is fantastic news," BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo said in a statement. "We're talking about six outstanding young men whose seasons were cut short by injury. I would also like to thank the Compliance staffs at Boston College and the ACC for their diligent efforts throughout this process."

Named the 2011 ACC Preseason Player of the Year, Harris missed the first three games with a knee injury and played in the next two, but suffered a season-ending injury in the team's fifth game. Earlier in that game, Harris broke the Eagles' career rushing record (3,725 yards held by Derrick Knight; Harris now has 3,735 yards).

Jones, a sophomore defensive back, injured his knee on a kickoff in the team's second game. Ramsey, a senior defensive tackle, injured his foot early in the season opener against Northwestern. Momah, a senior wide receiver and team captain, injured his left knee in the Northwestern game. Wujciak, a true freshman defensive lineman, suffered a shoulder injury.
