Wendell has been a two-year starter for the team at center, rising through the ranks after beginning his career as an undrafted free agent and once being a member of the team's practice squad.
The contract includes a signing bonus of $850,000, base salaries of $1 million per season, $2 million roster bonuses per season and up to $1.3 million in playing-time incentives for the 2015 season.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder has started 37 games in his career, all with the Patriots. Though not an overly big center, he has strong technical skills and has held up as a starter.
The Patriots have been busy this offseason, signing cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, while also re-signing wide receiver Julian Edelman and restructuring the contract of nose tackle Vince Wilfork.
