Patriots Chung, Spikes sidelined

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots were without two defensive starters, safety Patrick Chung (foot) and linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee), at full-pads practice on Thursday, the second straight day both players were out of action.

Also not practicing for the second straight day were offensive lineman Ryan Wendell (concussion) and linebacker Dane Fletcher (thumb).

In addition, nine players including linebackers Gary Guyton (shoudler) and Jerod Mayo (knee) and wide receiver Wes Welker (ribs) were limited.

If Chung is unable to play on Sunday in New York, the Patriots will be down to James Ihedigbo and Sergio Brown at safety, with rookie Sterling Moore the likely backup option.

Without Spikes, the Patriots would likely turn to Guyton for an increased role against the Jets on Sunday.

The other players limited at practice were: CB Kyle Arrington (foot), DE Shaun Ellis (ribs), RB Kevin Faulk (knee), RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis (toe), WR Taylor Price (hamstring), and OT Sebastian Vollmer (back).
