Better Know a New Bruin: Defenseman Derek Morris
How would you describe your game?
Simple. Simple is better. I've got to make a good first pass out of my zone and contribute where I can.
How would you describe your personality away from the rink?
I'm pretty laid-back. I enjoy being around the guys, my family. I just try to take her day by day and enjoy life.
What are some of your hobbies?
In the summertime, fishing, hunting. And then playing with my kids, spending time with my wife.
What music do you like?
My favorite band of all time is Metallica, but I love country music.
What have you liked most about Boston?
The people are genuine. You know what you're going to get. There's not too many snakes in the grass.
Who were your favorite hockey players and teams growing up?
I grew up in Alberta, so Edmonton was obviously my favorite team. Paul Coffey was probably my favorite defenseman. I enjoyed Ray Bourque, I liked Chris Chelios -- pretty much more of the offensive defensemen.
Do you have a favorite sport or sports team outside of hockey?
Well, baseball. I like the Red Sox. I love NASCAR. I know Kevin Harvick's pit boss a little bit, so I follow him a little bit.
What are you most looking forward to Thursday night?
Getting that first one out of the way. Getting out there with a full team. If we play our system well, we're going to win. It's going to be enjoyable to see the atmosphere and see the way these guys are. We know we have a great team. We've just got to go out there and play well.
