BOSTON – Boston Bruins defensemen Dennis Seidenberg has been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the St. Louis Blues with a lower-body injury, coach Claude Julien announced after the team's morning skate.
Seidenberg suffered the injury early in the first period of Tuesday's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden and did not return. He did not skate Thursday morning.
"As far as tonight, he's not in," Julien said. "He's day-to-day and he's working out. It's probably one of those situations, I would put it, more or less, could be seven days, maybe less."
Julien said McQuaid is progressing well and could return this weekend.
"He's not quite 100 percent yet, so he's a possibility for next game but not tonight," Julien said.
McQuaid has been skating since Monday, but Thursday was the first time he's practiced with the team since the injury. Participating in a full practice on Friday, and how the injury reacts, will give him a better indication of whether he'll be ready for Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
"It could be something that lingers for a little while, so I need to make sure I'm able to do the things I need to do on the ice," McQuaid said. "If I'm not able to do that, then I can't be out there. I'll continue to test myself and see how things go."
Prior to suffering the injury, McQuaid had been in a fight with the Maple Leafs' David Clarkson, but the defenseman doesn't think that triggered the problem.
"I've never had an injury like this before. I didn't know what had happened," he said. "Even the next couple of days I was a little worried, but since then every day I've been able to do a little bit more. Even from the first day I skated on Monday until today I've been pleasantly surprised with how it's progressed. Hopefully that continues."
Julien said defenseman Kevan Miller, recalled from Providence of the AHL on Wednesday, will make his NHL debut against the Blues.
