BOSTON -- Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid's season is officially over.
McQuaid, who has been sidelined since Jan. 19, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle last Thursday and will need eight weeks to recover, general manager Peter Chiarelli said in a statement released Sunday.
McQuaid was seen Saturday on crutches with a cast on his right foot, but coach Claude Julien would not elaborate on the defenseman's condition earlier Sunday.
"I don't know the full details of McQuaid so I will let either Peter or somebody elaborate more on that," Julien said.
McQuaid's problem originally was described as a quad injury. He attempted to come back a few times, but suffered multiple setbacks.
