BOSTON -- Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien said that captain Zdeno Chara is OK after taking a shot to the left knee area during Monday's practice and won't participate in Tuesday night's intrasquad scrimmage in Providence.

"He's fine. It's a contusion," Julien said. "That's where it's been diagnosed at. Nothing major, and giving him tonight off is certainly not going to hurt him."

Chara left the ice Monday in apparent pain and did not return. Julien characterized the injury as "a day-to-day bruise" following the practice.

Chara was briefly seen walking through the locker room in street clothes following Tuesday morning's off-ice workouts at TD Garden and appeared fine.
