WILMINGTON, Mass. -- Tim Thomas is holding fast to his vow not to talk politics as the defending Stanley Cup champions Boston Bruins prepare to open the playoffs against the Washington Capitals.

Thomas skipped the team's visit with President Barack Obama in January and later said he had problems with both political parties because the federal government "has grown out of control."

Asked after practice on Monday about returning to the nation's capital to play the Capitals, Thomas cut off the interview.

"Thanks, guys," he said with a laugh as he walked away. "We finally got somebody to get me out early."

The Bruins open their best-of-seven series against the Capitals in Boston on Thursday. Game 2 is Saturday before the series moves to Washington.
