April 21 -- After losing to the Yankees on Fenway's 100th anniversary the day before, the Red Sox blow a 9-0 lead and lose their fifth straight, 15-9 to New York, and fall to 4-10. After the series finale against the Yankees is rained out the next day, Bobby Valentine says, "I think we've hit bottom. ...You have to sometimes hit bottom. If this isn't bottom, then we'll find some new ends to the earth, I guess."
