The Sox demonstrated in April that they could win without Ortiz. October, however, is a different animal, and even at age 37, the threat of one big swing by Big Papi alters the composition of the entire Sox lineup. Ortiz is just 5-for-38 (.132) in his last two postseason series, the seven-game defeat by the Rays in 2008 and the sweep by the Angels in '09. Those are the last two postseason series lost by the Sox. He has to show up. -- Edes
