BOSTON -- The organizers of the Boston Marathon will celebrate their 125th anniversary with a series of shorter races called the Boston Athletic Association Distance Medley.

The three-race series combines a 5K on marathon weekend with a 10K in June and the half-marathon in October. Each race will have its own winners and prize purse -- plus the male and female series champions each will earn an extra $100,000.

The scoring will be based on the total times in the three races.

Everyone who completes all three races will be awarded a special commemorative medal for the series.
