Answering to years of growing demand for better and stronger opponents, Chavez has gradually stepped up his level of competition and has been dominant enough in his past few fights as to leave those doubts (not too far) behind. Ever since his fight with John Duddy in 2010, Junior has stepped up his game little by little, and it shows. Does it compare to Martinez's four-knockout streak against respectable (and, in certain cases, unbeaten) contenders Paul Williams, Sergiy Dzinziruk, Darren Barker and Matthew Macklin? It's close. Chavez's impressive showing against once-beaten Andy Lee in June, in what was expected to be his biggest challenge to date, helped him arrive at this fight with a better (and mostly deserved) approval rating in this category.
