Lee Selby of Wales will face Mexico's Romulu Koasicha in a featherweight world title eliminator on May 17 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn announced on Wednesday.
The winner of the bout will be a step closer to a mandatory shot against titleholder Jhonny Gonzalez of Mexico.
Selby (18-1, 7 KOs), the British and Commonwealth champion, won the European title in February, knocking out longtime contender Rendall Munroe in the sixth round of an impressive performance. Koasicha (21-3, 12 KOs), who has faced non-descript opposition, has won two fights in a row.
"Lee is buzzing right now," Hearn said. "He put in a great performance against Munroe in a sold-out arena in Cardiff and he can't wait to get back there. He is nicely poised in the rankings and the plan is to be the mandatory challenger by the close of the year."
Selby-Koasicha headlines a card that also includes former light heavyweight titlist Nathan Cleverly's debut in the cruiserweight division. Cleverly's opponent has not been determined.
