Adamek (44-2, 28 KOs), the popular Polish fighter based in New Jersey, will be fighting for the first time since he was dominated and stopped in the 10th round challenging heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in September in Poland.
After settling a lawsuit with Main Events, Adamek agreed to fight on the March 24 card (to be televised on NBC Sports Net) and was lined up to face Aguilera (17-6, 12 KOs), who would appear to be easy pickings.
Aguilera is 1-3 in his last four fights and 2-4 in his last six, including knockout losses to top contender Cristobal Arreola and former titleholder Samuel Peter and a decision loss to Antonio Tarver, the former light heavyweight champion who was making his heavyweight debut.
Adamek-Aguilera was added to a card that already features the junior welterweight title eliminator between former titleholder Zab Judah (41-7, 28 KOs) and Vernon Paris (26-0, 15 KOs) in the main event, and a heavyweight fight between former titlist Sergei Liakhovich (25-4, 16 KOs) and Bryant Jennings (12-0, 5 KOs).
"When we learned that Adamek was available and eager to fight on March 24, NBC (Sports Net) was gracious enough to give us enough time to stage a tripleheader," Main Events promoter Kathy Duva said. "The addition of (Adamek-Aguilera), along with the highly anticipated co-feature between newcomer Bryant Jennings and veteran Sergei Liakhovich, should truly make this a night to remember."
If Adamek is successful, he will likely fight again in June.
