Up-and-coming lightweight Angelo "La Cobra" Santana will face late substitute Bahodir Mamadjonov on Friday night at the Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, promoter Don King announced Monday.
Santana (14-0, 11 KOs), a 24-year-old southpaw and former Cuban amateur standout now living in Miami, was supposed to face Carlos Cardenas (20-6-1, 13 KOs) of Venezuela for a vacant interim 135-pound world title in the main event of the "ShoBox: The New Generation" card (10 p.m. ET/PT).
That fight was made official less than two weeks ago, but Cardenas suffered a shoulder injury on Thursday, was eventually ruled out and then replaced over the weekend by Mamadjonov (12-1, 8 KOs), a native of Uzbekistan living in Houston. The fight will still headline the card, but will be a scheduled 10-round nontitle bout rather than a 12-rounder for the interim belt.
Mamadjonov's most notable fight so far came in August, when he lost a 10-round split decision to unbeaten contender Darley Perez.
In the eight-round co-feature, Albany, N.Y., junior welterweight Amir Imam (8-0, 7 KOs) meets Jeremy Bryan (16-2, 7 KOs) of Paterson, N.J.
In a fight not slated for the U.S. telecast, Ryan Coyne (21-0, 9 KOs) of St. Louis is scheduled to face Marcus Oliveira (24-0-1, 19 KOs) of Lawrence, Kan., in a light heavyweight title eliminator. The winner of the scheduled 12-rounder will become the mandatory challenger for world titlist Beibut Shumenov.
