Frampton-Orozco bout set for July 20
Rising junior featherweight contender Carl Frampton of Northern Ireland will face Fabian Orozco at Wembley Arena in London on July 20, promoter Frank Warren announced on Thursday.
The fight will be Frampton's first since signing with Warren last month.
Frampton (16-0, 11 KOs), 26, is the European champion at 122 pounds, but that title will not be on the line when he faces Orozco (20-2-2, 7 KOs), 27, of Argentina.
"I think it will be a very exciting fight. From the footage I have seen of him he seems keen to get into tear-ups, which is what I like, someone who'll come and have a fight," Frampton said. "I think our styles will suit each other."
"Fabian Orozco is a talented, hard-punching boxer/fighter who is coming to Wembley believing he can beat Carl Frampton," said Hall of Famer Barry McGuigan, Frampton's manager. "He is rough and uncompromising and will definitely come to fight. Carl must win all of his fights as he gets closer to that world title he craves. We feel Fabian Orozco will bring the best out of Frampton and give the Wembley audience an enthralling fight."
The previously announced main event of the card features former heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KOs), 29, of England taking on Malik Scott (35-0-1, 12 KOs), 32, of Philadelphia.
Chisora ended a three fight-fight losing streak on April 20 by knocking out journeyman Hector Alfredo Avila in the ninth round at Wembley Arena. Scott is coming off a heavily disputed split draw against Vyacheslav Glazkov, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist from Russia, on Feb. 23.
