Ex-Irish FB Asaph Schwapp dies
Former Notre Dame fullback Asaph Schwapp died Wednesday at the age of 26 after more than a yearlong battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The Hartford, Conn., native was the state's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2005.
He played in 39 games for the Fighting Irish from 2005-08.
Primarily used as a blocker, the 6-foot, 257-pound Schwapp finished his college career with 44 carries for 98 yards and eight receptions for 62 yards.
Schwapp signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2009, but was cut before the regular season. He joined the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League in 2010, but left football after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
He later worked for Merrill Lynch.
