DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Obviously, Taj Gibson doesn't read too many blogs.
The Bulls' rookie forward has not seen the video of his former college coach, Tim Floyd, breaking up a fight at a California casino. The video, which shows the former USC coach getting in between a group of angry young women has become quite popular in the sports blogosphere in the last few days.
Tim Floyd was Taj Gibson's coach at USC for three seasons.
After I described a portion of the altercation to Gibson, he wasn't surprised to find out that Floyd had stepped in to save the day.
"It doesn't surprise me," the USC alum said after practice on Wednesday. "He's a great guy. He wants people to get along, and that's childish stuff. Coach Floyd would be the right guy for that kind of situation. He has a soft heart, a soft voice, so I know he probably broke it up real easy."
Gibson still has a lot of respect for Floyd, despite the fact that the former Bulls coach was forced to resign from USC earlier this summer.
"I talked to him a couple times when the season came about, but I haven't talked to him too much," Gibson said. "But he always talks to [Bulls general manager] Gar Forman. They're great friends back [from] the early days. Gar always tells me about him and how he's doing."
Gibson said he planned on watching the video some time after practice. Next time the pair speaks, I'm sure they'll have plenty to talk about.
