Source: Stars wanted Brandon Saad

NEW YORK -- A potential deal by the Chicago Blackhawks for former Dallas Stars defenseman Nicklas Grossman never came to fruition because of the Stars' demand for 2011 second-round pick Brandon Saad to be included in the trade, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Instead, Grossman was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for a second-round pick in 2012 and a third round pick in 2013.
