Alex Brown retires as a Bear

Nine-year NFL veteran Alex Brown signed a one-day contract with the Chicago Bears and promptly retired from football on Wednesday.

Brown, who was not on a roster during the 2011 campaign, spent eight seasons in Chicago and recorded 43.5 career sacks with the Bears  the fourth highest total in franchise history.

Brown started 123 of 143 regular-season games played. He recorded 412 tackles, 59 tackles for losses, 45.5 sacks, five interceptions, 16 forced fumbles, 12 ...
