Sox OF Wise declares free agency

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that outfielder Dewayne Wise has declared free agency instead of accepting an assignment to Class AAA Charlotte.

The 31-year-old Wise hit .225 with two home runs and 11 RBI in a career-high 84 games with the White Sox in 2009. In two seasons with the White Sox, Wise batted .236 with eight homers and 29 RBI. On July 23, he preserved Mark Buehrle's pefect game against Tampa Bay at U.S. Cellular Field with a spectacular leaping catch at the wall.

The White Sox 40-man roster is at 36.
