Carlos Quentin back Friday?

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Carlos Quentin could be back in the Chicago White Sox's lineup as early as Friday for the opener of a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.

Quentin sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder on Saturday making a play in the outfield. He left that game immediately and has not played since.

"It's gotten better," Quentin said before Tuesday's game against the Angels. "The pain was significant a couple of days back. Obviously it was a very fresh injury then. The pain has gone away as far as standing and just walking with it. We'll see if the pain can keep going away and get the inflammation down and the range of motion comes back, those will all be steps in the right direction."

Manager Ozzie Guillen originally thought Quentin might miss all the games on the White Sox's current five-game West Coast swing.

"He's made a lot of progress," Guillen said. "I expect, or hope, he can play the first game when we're back in Seattle. We have games here (Tuesday and Wednesday) and a day off (Thursday). Hopefully that helps him."
