DeWitt, who the Cubs acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers in July 2010, batted .265 with 11 doubles, five homers and 26 RBIs in 121 games last season. The 26-year-old has a .260 career batting average with 21 home runs and 134 RBIs in 404 games.
Cardenas, who was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the supplemental round (37th overall) of the 2006 draft and then acquired by the A's in a deal that sent Joe Blanton to Philly in July 2008, hit .314 with 28 doubles, five home runs, 70 runs scored and 51 RBIs in 127 games with Triple-A Sacramento last season. The left-handed batter and right-handed thrower played 35 games at second base, three at shortstop, 13 at third base and 44 in left field last season. Cardenas has spent most of his professional career at second base (361 games).
