CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko missed his second consecutive game against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday after being hit by a pitch in the face in the series opener.

Konerko was struck by a split-finger fastball by Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija in the third inning of Friday's game at Wrigley Field. Konerko suffered a small laceration over his left eye and swelling. He did not return to the game.

Konerko spoke to the media prior to Saturday's game with his left eye swollen nearly completely shut. He said all tests on his eye came back fine, and he would return to the field as soon as the swelling subsided.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Sunday he expected Konerko to play against the Minnesota Twins at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday. The White Sox do not have a game on Monday.

Konerko hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat on Friday. He is hitting .367 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs this season.
