CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Jesse Crain was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to June 24, with a right posterior shoulder strain.

The White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Deunte Heath from Triple-A Charlotte. The 26-year-old Heath was 4-2 with a 1.70 ERA in 22 appearances, including three starts, in the minors. He has no major league experience.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura hoped Crain wouldn't need to be on the disabled list for more than 15 days.

"I'm hoping so," Ventura said. "I think 15 should be it. Right now, knowing that we wouldn't use him through Sunday, it's just better to DL and give him all that time and then through the (All-Star) break."

Crain is 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 24 appearances this season. He's allowed six earned runs and has struck out 28 in 22 2/3 innings.

Crain was previously on the disabled list (April 27-May 14) with a strained right oblique.

The White Sox now have 10 rookies, including eight pitchers, on their 25-man roster.
