Chris Sale to start Monday
That will give Sale nine days of rest in between starts as the team continues to monitor the first-year starter's innings. After throwing eight innings in Wednesday's win over Minnesota, Peavy will get an extra day's rest before his next start. Rookie Jose Quintana is still slated to start Wednesday against Kansas City.
Ventura was unsure how long he would stick with a six-man rotation, although the Sox have only two days off this month -- Aug. 9 and Aug. 23.
"We're still going through that," Ventura said. "I think it gives us that flexibility with Sale and Quintana that you can extend them a little bit, give them a few days off, because you can bring everybody else back on five days if you want to in certain situations. You have options. For right now this is how it is. I don't know how long it's going to go, but we've got to see health-wise how everybody is."
The White Sox also agreed to a minor-league deal with Dewayne Wise on Friday. A member of the White Sox during the 2008 and '09 seasons, Wise is most famous among fans for his over-the-wall catch that saved Mark Buehrle's perfect game in July 2009.
Wise hit .262 with eight RBIs in 61 at-bats with the New York Yankees this season. New York released him July 30 after Wise refused a minor-league assignment.
