The Chicago Cubs confirmed Saturday that right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa will have elbow ligament replacement surgery on Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala.

Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery. Estimated recovery time is 11 to 13 months from Tommy John surgery.

Fujikawa was placed on the 60 day DL May 27 with a muscular of the right forearm. The 32-year-old Japanese pitcher signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with Chicago in December.

He appeared in 12 games for the Cubs with a 1-1 record and 5.25 ERA (two saves). Fujikawa pitched 12 years in Japan, saving 220 games during his career.
