Former major league catcher Brad Ausmus interviewed with the Chicago Cubs for their vacant managerial position on Friday.

Ausmus, 44, is the special assistant to baseball operations for the San Diego Padres, a position he was hired for when current Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer was the GM in San Diego.

Ausmus is the sixth known candidate to interview for the Cubs job, joining AJ Hinch, Manny Acta, Dave Martinez, Eric Wedge and Rick Renteria. Boston Red Sox coach Torey Lovullo reportedly will be interviewed but hadn't been contacted as of Friday morning, according to a source.

Ausmus played for four teams in his career, which spanned from 1993-2010. His only managing experience was with the Israeli national team that failed to qualify for the World Baseball Classic in 2012.
