The Chicago Bulls announced the signing of veteran center and Chicago native Nazr Mohammed on Friday.

A 14-year veteran, Mohammed will take the place of center Omer Asik, who left for the Houston Rockets after the Bulls declined to match a three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet.
The move caps a busy offseason re-shaping the Bulls' bench with cheaper players. The Bulls drafted guard Marquis Teague in the first round and signed swingman Marco Belinelli and forward Vladimir Radmanovic. They also traded for guard Kirk Hinrich, who will likely start in place of Derrick Rose until he returns from his knee injury.
In addition to Asik, the Bulls also parted ways with bench standouts Kyle Korver, C.J. Watson and Ronnie Brewer, who each had team options for a third year on their contracts.
Mohammed played with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season, averaging 2.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11 minutes a game.
