LSU assistant Billy Gonzales will be named Illinois' new offensive coordinator, sources have told ESPN.com.

An official announcement from Illinois is expected soon.

Gonzales just completed his second year as LSU's wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. He previously spent five years coaching wide receivers at Florida. LSU ranked 106th nationally in pass offense this season.

New Illinois head coach Tim Beckman had pursued his former Toledo assistant Matt Campbell for the offensive coordinator post, but Toledo promoted Campbell to head coach after Beckman departed last month. Beckman has hired four assistant coaches and retained Keith Gilmore from the previous staff as the team's defensive line coach.

North Carolina State's Jon Tenuta accepted Illinois' defensive coordinator position last week before reversing course and deciding to remain with the Wolf Pack.
