Zambrano off DL, to face Nationals

The Chicago Cubs activated right-handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano from the 15-day disabled list, and he'll start against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.

Zambrano has not pitched for the Cubs since Aug. 1 at Florida because of back spasms. He made one rehab start with Single-A Peoria, throwing 5.0 scoreless innings.

Zambrano is 7-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 20 starts for the Cubs, and he is unbeaten in his last five starts, going 3-0 with a 2.93 ERA.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs optioned right-handed pitcher Esmailin Caridad to Triple-A Iowa.
