Southern Illinois suspended junior guards Mykel Cleveland and Troy Long and sophomore center Gene Teague for three games on Friday for violating team and university conduct codes.
"I am extremely disappointed in the actions of our three student-athletes," Southern Illinois athletic director Mario Moccia said in a statement. "The incident will be reviewed by the university judicial process, and we will not discuss specifics until that process is complete."
Cleveland, a starter, is averaging 3.5 points and 2.2 assists per game. Teague, also a starter, is averaging 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Long is averaging 3.4 points per game.
The suspensions add to what's already been a trying season for the Salukis. They are 10-13 overall and 4-8 in the Missouri Valley and are coming off a 21-point loss to Drake and a 17-point loss to Evansville.
Southern Illinois hosts Bradley on Saturday.
