Source: Danieal Manning expected to sit

SAN DIEGO -- A tender hamstring is expected to sideline Chicago Bears starting strong safety Danieal Manning on Saturday night, according to a source close to the player.

Manning is dressed for Saturday's game, but he's unlikely to see any action, baring a possible rep on special teams.

The Bears are likely taking a cautious approach, considering Manning was able to practice in a limited fashion on Wednesday and Thursday. Manning also injured his hamstring last summer, but rushed back too soon, which caused him chronic problems for the remainder of the 2009 preseason.

The Bears have announced Craig Steltz will start at safety along with Chris Harris.

Rookie Major Wright, who is also challenging for a starting job, should see plenty of action in the defensive backfield.

Wide receiver Earl Bennett, linebacker Brian Iwuh, and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna have all been officially ruled out for Saturday's game.

Jeff Dickerson covers the Bears for ESPNChicago.com and ESPN 1000.
