Henry Melton to play on 1-year deal
Defensive tackle Henry Melton didn't reach agreement on a long-term deal with the Chicago Bears by Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline and will play under his one-year, $8.45 million tender, which he had previously signed.
Melton, who occupies one of the key positions in the Bears' scheme, tied for third among NFL defensive tackles last season with six sacks. He also forced two fumbles.
In the past two seasons, Melton has produced 13 sacks, second among defensive tackles in the NFL during that span.
Information from ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder and ESPNChicago.com's Michael C. Wright was used in this report.
