Toews gets to play in hometown

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will play an exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Winnipeg in the fall.

True North Sports & Entertainment Limited said Wednesday the Blackhawks will play the Lightning on Sept. 22 at MTS Center.

The matchup will be the seventh NHL preseason contest hosted by Winnipeg since 1997. The game will be a homecoming for Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, a Winnipeg native.

Last year, the Lightning defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime in Winnipeg before 11,644 fans.

The Blackhawks play at Detroit on Sept. 24, then play their first game at United Center since winning the Cup on Sept. 25, when they host the Red Wings.

After traveling to Pittsburgh on Sept. 28 and St. Louis on Sept. 30, the Blackhawks host the Penguins on Oct. 1 and the Blues on Oct. 3.
