The Chicago Blackhawks signed right winger Igor Makarov to a two-year contract Tuesday.
Makarov, 22, was the Hawks' second-round pick (33rd overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The Moscow, Russia, native has played two seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League, comprised mainly of Russian teams, and registered 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists).
Makarov had six points and a plus-5 plus/minus rating for Russia at the 2007 World Junior Championships, where the Russians won the silver medal. The tournament also featured current Blackhawks Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Niklas Hjalmarsson.
