Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo may need surgery on his injured left leg, and coach Joel Quenneville did not discount the possibility that Carcillo's season might be over.

"We'll see," Quenneville said Wednesday when asked if Carcillo could be done for the season.

Carcillo has served four games of his seven-game suspension for the hit that resulted in his injury. He boarded the Edmonton Oilers' Tom Gilbert on Jan 2.

The Blackhawks are calling it a lower-body injury, but Carcillo fell awkwardly, apparently hurting his left leg.

"Danny could have surgery," Quenneville said. "It's at the discussion stages, but it's out there."
