CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks assigned winger Jimmy Hayes to Rockford of the AHL, the team announced Saturday.

Hayes, 22, recorded four goals and seven points in 13 games with the Hawks this season after being recalled on Dec. 29.

The move paves the way for injured Hawks Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp to possibly be activated from injured reserve when the season re-starts on Tuesday after the All-Star break.

The Hawks' active roster stands at 21 with the addition of center Brendan Morrison via trade with the Calgary Flames on Friday. The maximum allowed is 23.
