Jonathan Toews out vs. Red Wings

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews missed Tuesday's 2-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings due to an upper-body injury, coach Joel Quenneville announced Tuesday morning.

"He's day to day," Quenneville said before the game. "Upper body ... There was no defining blow, I would say."

Toews was able to finish Sunday's 3-1 win over St. Louis. The team was off Monday and Toews was not on the ice for practice Tuesday morning.

Quenneville indicated the injury is not related to a left hand problem that kept Toews out of one game before the All-Star break as well as the All-Star Game itself.

The Red Wings were without star center Pavel Datsyuk, who is out two weeks with a knee injury.

Niklas Hjalmarsson practiced with the Blackhawks for the first time after missing the last six games with an upper-body injury. Hjalmarsson says he's not 100 percent.

Toews leads the team with 29 goals.

Corey Crawford starts in goal as the Hawks look for their fourth consecutive win after dropping nine in a row. The Red Wings have won six straight and start Jimmy Howard in net. Howard has been out with a finger injury since Feb. 2.
