CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews and defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson will not accompany the team to California for its weekend set of games against the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks.
Toews has missed the past two games with an upper-body injury and was involved in a one-car accident Thursday, though the Blackhawks say he was not injured in the crash.
Hjalmarsson played in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars after missing the previous seven with what is believed to be a concussion-related injury. He finished the game after seeing 16 minutes, 6 seconds of ice time.
Coach Joel Quenneville has called Toews' status day to day. His last game was Sunday against the St. Louis Blues, but has missed practices and games all week. There is no exact timetable for his return.
Steve Montador remains on injured reserve with an upper-body injury as well and also will not travel with the team. The Blackhawks take on the Kings Saturday and the Ducks Sunday.
