ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The NHL suspended Wild defenseman Nate Prosser one game for his head-butt on Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers in Minnesota's 2-1 shootout win on Thursday.

At 18:19 of the first period, Prosser was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct after a scrum in front of the Blackhawks' net. Mayers was seen bleeding after the play as Prosser's helmet cut his lip, but Mayers completed the game.

"I was shocked to have that happen," Mayers said. "That's never happened in my career. I was not happy about it.

"To his credit, the young kid, Prosser, did apologize to me after the game."
