Source: Montador placed on waivers
Montador, who is making $2.75 million, is expected to clear waivers and be assigned to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
Montador was recently activated and told reporters last week he thought a conditioning stint with the IceHogs was a possibility. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville was asked Sunday if Montador could go to Rockford, and Quenneville answered, "We'll see."
"We got eight defensemen here, and everybody's played pretty well," Quenneville said on Sunday. "Right now, (Montador's) waiting his turn to get into the lineup. That's kind of where he's at."
Montador hasn't played in a game since March 27. He missed time on two occasions due to head injuries last season. He had five goals, nine assists and a plus/minus rating of plus-4 in 52 games last season.
Montador signed a four-year, $11 million contract with the Blackhawks in June 2011. He has played 571 career NHL games.
The Blackhawks, who have lost two straight after setting an NHL record with 24 straight games with a point to start the season, next play the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
