Aguirre, who was a McDonald's All-American, was a big-time scorer in the Chicago Public League at Westinghouse, then at DePaul and finally in the NBA. He was the No. 1 pick in the 1981 draft and went on to have a memorable 13-year pro career. He averaged 20 points in his NBA career, which was spent mostly with the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons. He won two NBA titles with the Pistons while playing with fellow Chicagoan Isiah Thomas.
